OAKLAND PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS, PARENTS, AND TEACHERS TO TAKE ESCALATED ACTION AT SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

Oakland, CA – Dozens of Oakland public school students, their parents, teachers and community members will be engaged in an escalated action on Friday, September 27th 8am at the Oakland Unified School District Central Offices at 1000 Broadway, Oakland. After successfully shutting down the School Board meeting Wednesday, the coalition of students, parents, teachers and community members from across the District are continuing action in response to several years of school closures targeted at schools with higher percentages of students of color, and the District’s plans for more closures across the District. The coalition is also pushing back against private sector attempts to
take over the School District, close public schools, and open more charter schools with far less accountability and poorer labor standards for teachers.

The coalition of students, parents, teachers and community members is asserting that OAKLAND IS NOT FOR SALE and demanding NO SCHOOL CLOSURES. The escalated action will continue until OUSD begins to work with the Oakland community in good faith. More information can be found at the coalition’s website, https://oaklandnotforsale.com
