OAKLAND PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS, PARENTS, AND TEACHERS TO TAKE ESCALATED ACTION AT SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
Oakland, CA – Dozens of Oakland public school students, their parents, and their teachers will be engaged in an escalated action at the Oakland Unified School District’s Board meeting on Wednesday, 9/25 at 5:30pm. The coalition of students, parents and teachers from across the District are taking action in response to several years of school closures targeted at schools with higher percentages of students of color, and the District’s plans for more closures across the District. The coalition is also pushing back against private sector attempts to take over the School District, close public schools, and open more charter schools with far less accountability and poorer labor standards for teachers.
The coalition is asserting that OAKLAND IS NOT FOR SALE and demanding NO SCHOOL CLOSURES. A more specific framework will be presented on Wednesday as part of the escalated action. More information can be found at the coalition’s website, https://oaklandnotforsale.com
